What do you like about your character?
Mary Shannon is a very comfortable fit for me. I’m also sometimes grumpy and acerbic, and I think she’s funny and smart.
And I love that she’s so complex – you get to see someone who thinks she has it all together but obviously doesn’t, and is kind of a train wreck personally.
How do you feel about playing such a kick-ass role?
I always say it’s an unbelievable opportunity for me, because it’s like every show rolled into one. I get to wear the badge and have a gun and kick butt, and all that stuff. Everyone secretly wants to be a superhero. And then I also deal with family and my love life and a whole bunch of vulnerable stuff.
